Kharupetia is a small township in the Distdrict of Darrang in the state of Assam beside the N.H. 52 with a populations nearing 22,792 in 8 wards. The percentage decade growth for 1991-2001 was 31.62% on the basis of these figures, the population of Kharupetia Town may be projected at 30,000 persons in the Year - 2011. Most of the peoples are Bengali speaking. There are also Hindi, Assamese, Nepali speaking people. Kharupetia Chariali (Police Point), NH-5 Most of them of this town are businessmen. It is one the biggest market of vegetables & agricultural crops in Assam.. Vegetables are grown at Kharupetia and its surrounding areas which are supplied to various parts of N.E.States. Road communication of this town is very good and every 10 minutes there are public / govt. buses and other smaller vehicles like Winger, Sumo, Star Bus, Maruti Van, Maruti Car available on hire because all the buses from Arunachal Pradesh and Upper Assam on the north bank of river Brahmaputra have to run through this town to go to Guwahati, the capital town of Assam.
