Bengtol College is situated in the Chirang District, Assam. It is 17 Km. from NH-31, 24 km. from Bongaigaon Railway station and 184km. from Guahati. The concept of establishing Bengtol College started in the year 1977. An adhoc committee was set up by educationally conscious and interested citizens of the locality to achieve the purpose. The time passed by, but there was no development in the official and construction works due to several reasons. Eventually in the year 1981, a College management Committee was formed to carry forward the works relating to establishment in 1981, it took long 16 years to start actual classes. The classes were formally started on 1st August, 1997 with 7 numbers of students in B.A. 1st year and 3 number of teachers. The college received affiliation from the Gauhati University in 1999. The affiliation was given by the University in the following subjectsEnglish, Alternative English, Modern Indian Language (MIL) in Bodo, Assamese & Nepali, Bodo Elective, Political Science, Education, Economics, History, Philosophy and BBA (bachelor of Business Administration). The University also accorded affiliation for major course to the college in the following subjectsBodo, Economics, Education, English, History, Philosophy and Political Science. At the same time, the college has received permanent Affiliation from the Gauhati University in the year 2009. Meanwhile, the college has received UGC recognition under Section 2 (f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act 1956, New Delhi in the year 2009. The college has 12 acres of vast contiguous land and greenish charming plot. The college has introduced many more career Oriented Courses in the college sponsored by UGC. The college is imparting a quality education to the deprived students and working persons through distance mode of education system like Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) GU and Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) Guwahati, Assam. The College has a central Library in the name of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam with around 12000 odd volumes of books including references and text books. There are separate facilities for study for boys and girls as well as for teachers in the library. Library books are updated every year by inducting the course related text and reference books for the benefit of the students.
