Having spent a total of 11 years here (Class KG-10, recently passed out) I consider myself quite qualified to review this school. This will be a long read, but I've penned everything honestly, keeping in mind the queries of those parents wanting to get their children admitted in LFS. Here goes: 1. CAMPUS: I'm keeping the best point at the beginning. LFS probably has the best campus of any school in Dibrugarh/Upper Assam. There is a total of four spacy buildings, a humongous field, a playground for primary children, a park (though rarely used), a basketball court, and a nice shady spot under the huge tree at the front. On top of that, you won't find any dearth of greenery or flowers here. Overall the best campus that a child can grow up in. 2. DISCIPLINE: It easily produced the most dignified, well-spoken and disciplined students in Assam till about a decade ago. After that the level of discipline has gone down quite a bit, but still nowhere as low as the more recent private schools or any government school. The administration tries its best to regulate the students with sensible rules and punishments. It also lays special stress on the speaking of English in school premises. I haven't seen any recent LFSian having exemplary English speaking skills, but they're much, much better than the other schools in Dibrugarh. 3. ACADEMICS: If you study hard on your own, you'll pass the HSLC with flying colours. However, if you depend only on the teachers, then God help you. The bitter truth is that every student's opinion of the teachers will vary. I had a very bad experience. The primary teachers are okay. But from middle school onwards, and especially in high school (8-10), if you don't take private tuitions from the teachers, it's going to be a rough ride for you. They will be ever-ready to reduce your marks in every single exam. If you ask them doubts that they can't solve, they'll victimize you and reduce your marks even more. However, if you're willing to spend the whole day hopping from one tuition class to another, you'll be the favourite of the teachers and will be scoring much more than you deserve - you might even top the class. The partiality culture is very strong here. From the academic point of view, many other schools like Salt Brook, DPS and Shiksha Valley, have more knowledgeable and more capable teachers. 4. BOARD: I think the board of education is a far more important factor to be considered than the teachers. This school is under SEBA (Assam Board), which was the predominant board in Dibrugarh back when I took admission here. It was quite okayish at that time, but now its antics have crossed the point of toleration (extremely strict marking scheme, conducting and cancelling exams at will, introducing dozens of unnecessary subjects every year, etc). SEBA is a very, very outdated board. With so many CBSE schools cropping up in Dibrugarh, that too of great quality, why would you want your child to bear such torture under SEBA? CBSE, being a national board, is quite advanced in structure and content and much more beneficial for students than SEBA. 5. SPORTS & EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: For students having special interest in sports, LFS is not a bad place. The Annual Sports event provides a lot of opportunities for showcasing and spotting talents. Apart from sports, other extracurricular activities like singing, dancing and drama can be taken up during the various cultural events. But something I didn't like is that there is very little encouragement of academic/intellectual extracurriculars like debates, quizzes, creative writing, public speaking, etc. Though all the pros and cons of the school cannot be explained in a short manner, I've tried my best to present the most important points comprehensively. All in all, I had a mixed experience in the school - though the negative aspects are too many, I try my best to remember mainly the positive ones. If I could give a single line of advice to prospective parents: "This is a very average school, with mixed feelings to offer - take admission at your own risk!"
