Aligarh Muslim University is a public central university in Aligarh, India, which was originally established by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875. Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College became Aligarh Muslim University in 1920, following the Aligarh Muslim University Act. It is open to students from all communities irrespective of caste, creed, gender and religion. The campus is equipped with IT services, central library, health centre and sports facilities. It also has open access learning resources facilities, students counselling centre and various clubs for recreational activities. Admission to a respective course is done basis marks obtained in the last qualification examination and/or performance in the entrance exam conducted by the university or at national level.
