Khagarijan College is one of the premier institution of Assam. Nestled amidst sylvan surroundings, it is located in the Nagaon Town. Our College adopted the old and ancient name of Nagaon, ‘Khagarijan’, ‘Khagari’, a type of reed and ‘Jaan’, a small tributary, jointly formed the word ‘Khagarijan’. It is from the old name of Nowgong that the name of this institution has originated. Our college prestigiously displays this name. These reeds or ‘Khagari’ can still be seen growing on the banks of the Potakolong, a wetland and a water channel formed out of the confluence of the Kolong and Kapili River, right behind the College. The first academic session of Khagarijan College was started on 12 September, 1972 at Nuruddin Muktab School near B. P. Hospital, Nagaon. The College was shifted to the present place in the same year. The first Principal of the College was Late Abdul Hye. Forty eight years of existence is a major milestone for any institution. During the years many students have passed out through our parents and emerged on strong capable citizens of our country. The students excel in the fields of arts, business, sports, drawing and painting and law. Many alumni are today practising lawyers in Nagaon, many are working in Colleges, Schools, defense, and many of them involved in Sports and also in cultural activities. Students here shine in the academic and co-curricular activities. Khagarijan College lays importance on all round development of the students. The students have achieved numerous awards in the state level and district level competitions. The laurels they bring back to their alma mater inspire rest of the students to dream big. Many national level and state level seminars and talks are organized by the different departments of our College. P.G. course in Assamese department has been running since 2015 which is the great achievement of our College. By this year we are introducing Commerce Stream, BCA, PGDCA in regular mode under Gauhati University besides GUIDOL and KKHSOU study centers are established to provide the opportunity to the students to access knowledge in regular as well as open and distance mode. Student community are also provided different facilities such as Computer Education, Yoga Training Centre, Physical Training Centre, Spoken English Centre, Employment Guidance through career counseling cell. Many distinguish personalities of different Academic institutions used to visit our college and share their knowledge and experiences with our students for better understanding of the curriculum. Khagarijan College brings one close to nature. Many luminaries visiting the College have likened it to an ashram and hermitage.The confluence of nature and modernism on the one hand and on the other hand, is to be seen everywhere peace reigns supreme here, where hundreds of ‘kopow’ birds (the Doves) ring our their clarion calls and herald the message of love and peace .
