Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya, Port Blair is the premier Institution in the Union Territory of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands which had its inception in 1967 as Govt. College Port Blair. The College offers instructions in wide-ranging disciplines at Undergraduate and postgraduate levels leading to B.A, B.Sc, B.Com., BCA, BBA(Tourism & Travel Mgt.) and BPES (Physical Education) degrees and M.Sc., M.A and M.Com degrees respectively. Initially the College was Affiliated with Punjab University, Chandigarh at the time of inception (1967) and the Affiliation was shifted to Pondicherry Central University in the year 1987. The College is also centre of almost all the UPSC Competitive Examinations. It has also been declared as NET examination centre by UGC from December 2002 onwards. This College has an excellent sprawling campus having statues of great thinkers like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Swami Vivekananda. The Islands of Andaman & Nicobar are geographically remote because of the vast distance from the mainland coastal line. The Islands of Andaman & Nicobar are home to some of the indigenous tribes. JNRM is the hub of higher educational activities in these Islands and has produced diligent graduates and postgraduates in many disciplines. Apart from many first classes, some of the students have been Gold medalist and toppers in the entire Pondicherry University. To students aspiring to study in a non-formal environment, JNRM is an active Centre for Distance Education. Students enroll for courses offered by IGNOU and for Distance Education Programmes of Pondicherry University. This has facilitated not only students but also people from the working class aiming at higher education. The College offers hostel facilities for boys & girls hailing from distant Islands with the motto to give students a homely atmosphere.There are only limited seats in the Hostels. With the help of a highly qualified and able staff, the College gives students unlimited help in every aspect. The library, which is the nerve centre of the College, offers a vast horizon of knowledge to the students. In addition to gaining knowledge, students are given equal opportunity for overall personality development through a wide-range of seminars and debates. As a foresight to the development of the College and addition of more and more courses, the College has a steadily growing infrastructure. The College has spacious classrooms, well equipped laboratories, seminar rooms, computer centres & Zoological museum in addition to excellent infrastructural facilities in sports. The College emphasises on imparting Quality Education so that in the present scenario of Liberalisation, Privatisation and Globalisation, our students can compete at national and international levels. The College gives top priority to discipline in the Campus and Hostels. Ragging of any type is totally banned in this Institution. Students should not indulge in such unhealthy practice. Students are advised to make optimal utilization of resources and facilities available in the College so that intellectual, moral, spiritual and physical components of their personality can be developed.
Giving two stars only due to wide range of degrees offered under UG and PG Nevertheless it doesn't competes anywhere near colleges in mainland. Although oldest college in Andaman it still remains old with necessary upgrades not made. However Professor and staff is the best.
Nice place to spend your time with noise of sea water . cool weather and peaceful place. Nice location.
It's just ok ok, so so, it's totally an old school type college with wooden infrastructure, it's like you go back in 60s-70s college era.
