Set up in 1984, the Southern Air Command headquartered in Thiruvananthapuram, is the youngest of the five operational Commands of the Indian Air Force (IAF). Though located far away from the borders of India with China and Pakistan, SAC has significant strategic importance as it oversees the entire Indian Ocean economic zone of our motherland. The HQ of SAC is situated in this picturesque hillock overlooking the Akkulam Lake and there is a small Air force Station inside the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport (TRV).
