Nrising Dev Palace, Datia, Madhya Pradesh. Nrising Dev Palace, built in 1620 A.D. by Bir Singh Deo, Bundela chief, is one of the finest buildings in India. The five storeyed palace, 130 ft. in height, stands on a rocky outcrop.

67 km away from the city of Gwalior lies a palace where no one has ever lived. The Datia Palace is an imposing beauty that is unlike most other palaces in the country, as its builder never lived here. The palace, all of seven-floors, is stunning to look at. Also known as Bir Singh Palace, named after Maharaj Bir Singh Deo, it was built in Indo-Islamic architectural style. Its walls speak of a different era, of a time when a large area of land was referred to as Bundelkhand. The palace speaks of a time when Bir Singh Deo, its maker, was made Maharaja by Jahangir after the latter came to power. But the majestic old palace seems lost in history, its glory unrecognisable, its deserted body is languishing for what seems like an eternity. Its charming oriel windows have been looking at the changing world for many years now. One can see that the structure was built with utmost care, with thoughtful precision. Its beautiful paintings, and designs speak volumes about the artistry of those days. It has four octagonal towers, and for those who can climb high enough, they will be gifted with a view of the surrounding area
