Our Tempo Traveller was booked to drop the in-house mates after their parole from Alappuzha. The area was really in a remote place. After reaching kattakada then drive to Nettukaltheri is really adventures in a mini bus. 2 kms before crossing a small brigde and the road is really narrow to the open prison. Only possible to drive in first gear to reach there.
The open prison in Nettukaltheri was established in 1962. It is situated inside the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary. The open prison was built on the 500 acres of land given by the Department of Forests. The main town nearest to the prison is Kattakkada. The prison is around 35kms from Thiruvananthapuram city. KSRTC buses to the prison can be boarded from Kattakkada KSRTC bus depot.
