The institute set up by central government in 1954 as ' Development Officers Training Institute',is one of the oldest training institutes. Jharkhand government changed the name to 'SIRD' in 2002.The institute trains staff and offices of state involved in development work of state. The campus is spread in large area with modern facilities for training . There are hostels and mess for trainees in campus with several training halls. There are quarters for faculty within the green and well maintained campus.
