In May 2019, I was dignosed with squamous cell carcinoma grade 2. I had a very agressive tumour on my tongue. It was malignant and had also spread to my lymph nodes in the neck. It was accidently detected when I visited a dentist. A friend of mine suggested I go to Sri Shankara Cancer Foundation to review, test and take suggestions for the next steps. I was examined by Dr. Sudha. She quickly determined it to be cancer and promptly carried out a biopsy. I received results from the biopsy the following day confirming the worst. My cancer was quite serious and if not treated quickly it had potential far and wide. During my next follow-up, I met with the expert - Dr. Girish Rao. He is the captain of the ship. Within minutes of examination and looking at the reports, he told me what the next steps would be, what the course of treatment is and what to expect over the next few months. His team - Dr. Sudha, Dr, Gauri and Dr. Vinay were by my side providing me with all the support and determination, providing me with practical and real ways of dealing with what i was going through. I went through a very complex surgery in June 2019 followed by 6 weeks of intense radiotherapy. It took me close to a year to recover from my surgery and the radiotherapy. It's been 2 1/2 years since I was diagnosed with cancer and post a scan and physical examination I have been told that I am cancer free. Dr. Girish Rao and team have been God sent. I'm alive because of them and my family & I will permanently remain indebted to them. Thank you!
