Bongaigaon Polytechnic today formally launched the first ever indigenously made remote controlled COVID ROVER in Assam and handed it over to the authorities of Manikpur Model Hospital to use it for the service of COVID-19 patients who are undergoing treatment at present.Dr. Chakradhar Das, the Principal of Bongaigaon Polytechnic, assisted by an efficient team of five members has successfully completed the making of this rover totally with indigenous items. Though few of the electrical and mechanical items were collected online for necessary preparation of the Rover during the lockdown period, but most of the required items are arranged by the team locally.The main body/structure of the Rover is made up with Plywood, wood and plastic.Even the electronic circuits used in the Rover are hand made and no ready-made module has been used at all.The rover relies on 6 volt battery for energy and it's carrying capacity is 15 kg.at the maximum.Four hours battery charge shall be enough to get the Rover in service for the entire day.The Rover will be used to serve food and medicine to the covid patients without involving a person wearing a PPE kit. Hence it will save a lot of PPE and bard consequent risk of covid contamination to the food supplier.
