Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, an Institute under State Legislature Act (Government), was established on 19 November 1983 as an autonomous organisation on the pattern of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. The estimated budget was 110 crore rupees which was later revised to 133 crores. It is one of the main health care institutions in the state of Bihar. It is the only superspecialist institute of Bihar and tops the hierarchy in patient referral chain. The institute provides education in medicine and does conducts many health and medicinal research in Bihar. It received affiliation of medical college from MCI in September 2011. It has 120 recognised MBBS seats and the highest number of superspeciality seats among the colleges of Bihar. It is recognised to provide degree of MBBS, MD, MS, M.Ch, DM, DNB, Ph.D and various paramedical degrees.
It is among the most advanced hospital of the Bihar. As this is among the top hospital of bihar so patients flow is very high. If you don't have any approach or link in this hospital you may face difficulties for even appointment. Getting bed for an emergency patient is also very tough. If you can compromise a bit then you can visit here for quality and affordable treatment.

Government hospital is government hospitals you may build new high raising building but u can't change the facilities amd mindset of staffs of government enterprise . Pros Few new building was made like state cancer institute , clg building amd condition of opd and general medicine was worst . And testing of antigen and rtpcr is worst worst. I am going to my clg for that i need rtpcr test Done so all of my frnd from different state like gujarat , Maharastra , Kerela , tamilnadu etc went to govt hospital they shared a very positive feedback so i want to igims patna one of best hospital but condition isnworst , security guard took money and allow that person to get test Done first, and Yes no social distances is maintened everyone is pushing others while seeing this i went to private lab For vaccination facilities are good because it is organised in new building and Yes security guard was there after few metres which makes campus safe. . I didt took emergency band opd picture as they were too crowded
Now it's far better than many of the private hospitals in patna in terms of amenities
