The Forest Research Institute (FRI) is one of the few old institutions of research and training in India that are not resting on their past laurels, but are continuing to make significant contribution to the development of their respective domains. The FRI, which has been recognized as a Deemed University, has an enviable body of work in the areas of sylviculture and development of training methodology in forestry. It has also maintained the high traditions of upkeep of its sprawling campus inherited from the British, but is hard put to safeguard it from expropriation by other land hungry agencies and instrumentalities of the state. The demands made by various departments of the new state of Uttarakhand, which has its seat in Dehradun, and of the Indian Military Academy, which is its immediate neighbour, are becoming increasingly insistent.
Excellent place. Feel like inside the nature. Varieties of flora across while campus. FRI building is a real masterpiece.
