A REVIEW ON RICE-MMS - DR.KHRIEREIZHÜNUO DZÜVICHÜ RICE-MMS has become a benchmark for me both as a parent and as an educator. As a parent, during my moves to keep the family stay together, whenever I look out for new schools in the vicinity for my child, I am hardly satisfied. As an educator, I keep looking out for the resonating and professional vibes which I experienced at RICE-MMS. In this too, I am still in want. The questions which frequent my mind are, ‘What is lacking in other schools?’, ‘How?’ and ‘Why?’ I am glad that I finally got the opportunity to answer these questions through this personal review of mine on RICE-MMS. I consider RICE-MMS as a haven for all children. Its stand against the ‘one size fits all’ paradigm gives every child the freedom to learn within their inherent individual preferences, within their own pace and without any barriers, academically or otherwise. Children receive the much sought after individual attention from the teachers to excel in what they do well and to grow and learn in areas where they need help. The integrated curriculum of RICE-MMS with sports, music, dance, drama, art, media, etc, is its signature and project success. When family, friends and neighbours desperately share about the problems, hopes and wishes with and for their children’s schools, RICE-MMS comes to my mind as the destination with all the answers related to school problems and parents’ questions. MMS’s policy of ‘teach to reach all’ in all aspects is a unique element whereby every child gets the opportunity to shine and feature his/her own attributes in varied platforms inside and outside academics. My son has not performed in a school assembly or a school function after he left RICE-MMS, though his present and previous schools are much smaller in size and strength. He still remembers the science experiments and Math concepts he did in class when he was in RICE-MMS. His social and emotional practices were better, his eating habits were finer, and his physical and outdoor activities were more at RICE-MMS with its holistic education. Not many schools give so much attention to teachers’ training like RICE-MMS, which has its own prototype training for all teachers of all stages at all times. This is a very important gateway to the success of RICE-MMS. The recurrent responsiveness and care of the teachers towards the students make their students feel loved and valued in their own capacities. During the time of the pandemic, the way the school trained and updated its facilitators deserves special mention. This is just one instance of the school rising up to the occasion as a resilient 21st century school. The teacher-students ratio at RICE-MMS is perfect for teachers to really get to know their students and help them shine. The pre-primary program and ambience are exceptionally good and child-friendly from every angle. The children learn through playing, experimenting and sharing about their learning. In the primary classes, the play way assessment is one of the best practices of the school. In the higher classes, the teachers accurately prepare the students with critical reading, persuasive writing, engaging and challenging projects, etc. When it comes to infrastructure, facilities and amenities, RICE-MMS is second to none. The classroom buildings are an art by themselves; with large and well lighted and ventilated rooms and wide open verandahs. The sports facilities cater to a wide range of activities at the discretion of the students and staff to utilise and optimise them. The overall environment of RICE-MMS is green, warm, welcoming, safe and child friendly in all aspects, in tune with its vision and mission. The leadership at RICE-MMS, under the stewardship of Mr.Meru Miller, a multi-faceted doyen, has a lot to offer in school strategic planning, systems and policies.
